Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN)
Travel and Ground Transport

(Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam)

Located 6 km / 4 miles north-west of Ho Chi Minh City, Tan Son Nhat International Airport has a good range of ground transportation options to downtown. However, some of these modes of transport are not as reliable or as regular as others. Most of the large hotels in the city and near the airport offer courtesy shuttle services for guests.

Local Buses

While not recommended due to their infrequency and unreliability, there are local buses that travel from the airport to destinations in and around Ho Chi Minh City. With neither drivers nor signs communicating in English, the local bus option is strictly for adventurers who don't mind a little unplanned sightseeing.

Minibuses

If you have a few people in your party, hiring a minibus to your destination is a viable option. There are plenty of minibuses on standby outside the Arrivals Terminal, but you'll need to negotiate the fare first.

Hotel Shuttles

Some of the better Ho Chi Minh City hotels provide free airport transfers for guests. This is by far the best method of getting to and from the airport, so it is advisable to check with your accommodation provider or travel agent to see whether or not a shuttle service is available.

Taxi Cabs

A myriad of marked metered taxis and unmarked cabs await each arrival at the airport and are willing to take you anywhere in or around Ho Chi Minh City. Be wary of unmarked cabs; although these do double as chauffer-driven 'rental cars' if you want a car and a driver for the duration of your stay. The taxi stands are located just outside the Arrivals building.

Cyclos

A novel but potentially hair-raising method of getting to downtown Ho Chi Minh City is to hire a cyclo. These motorcycle taxis are fast and fun, although can be dangerous at times. As usual, you'll need to bargain with the driver to get the best rate.
